Playstation Vita Wows

The Next Generation Handheld (NGP) was given the official name of the Playstation Vita at Sony’s press conference as well as further details and some solid looking launch titles that the crowd applauded over and over.

The Vita will have the same hardware as shown earlier this year as promised. There will be front and back touch screens, two thumbsticks, a d-pad, select and start, X, O, triangle, square, two triggers, and a outwards facing camera.

The Vita will also be launched with some PS3 known franchises backing the launch titles. Uncharted: Golden Abyss is one of the best looking launch titles coming to the handheld which looks to hold up to the Uncharted franchise quality that we know. ModNation Racers is also coming to the Vita with the creation tools that the PS3 version was loved for. You can even play the PS3 created tracks on the Vita.

Finally, the Vita is set to hit store shelves holiday season of this year. The pricing will be USD$249.99 for the Wi-fi only model and USD$299.99 for the 3G/Wi-fi model. This places it in a very competitive position with the Nintendo 3DS with the Wi-fi model being the same USD price.

Hopefully the Vita and its launch software can live up to the hype this holiday season.
