Longest introduction...

Unlike the first game, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, everything that a good game was supposed to have at the time it was created was there. All four pillars were much better than they were in the first one. Especially the story. They even used this in the tutorial for the game.

After a long series of rather interesting cutscenes, we are able to see how careless Ron was being (it’s a huge tree, how did he miss that?). Afterword, you see one last little cutscene, then take control of Harry. He basically brings up everything that was discussed in the first game. All you need to worry about is dodging the vines, and you should know the rest (climbing over walls, Lumos, Alohamora, Flipendo, Save Game books, etc.)

The story for the second Harry Potter game stuck more to the original story than the first one. Plus, unlike the first one, more story elements were added between the different challenges. The story only had a select few flaws.

Fantastic Graphics!

The graphics were also a bit better, especially with the characters’ mouths moving. The spells you cast also have better graphics, and there are more spells in this game than the last.

The sounds that characters make when they’re talking still sound like they are more ‘made’ than ‘told’, but they did alot better here, too. And the sound effects are also much better, but it’s not over ’til the Fat Lady sings.

Learning spells differently

Learning spells differently

And best of all, the gameplay and interaction took me home. The challenges that they came up with in this game, which there are alot of if you include all the challenges that include the story, had more complicated puzzles, more secrets, and alot of fun. There is even a new way to learn spells, using the arrow keys instead of the mouse, which I think is easier.

So, overall, this game got closer to a perfect rating than the last one. In a few days, I’ll review the third one.
