Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim At E3
The first thing i thought when I witnessed the gameplay of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, at E3 was something along the lines of “wooaahhhgwaghuhwhathowwhywoah”. This of course was followed by more incoherent mumbling as the level of detail was shown. You could see that plant, and then look at the plant in real life, and actually mistake one for the other. The vastness of the world, and the seamless transitions between weather took me completely off guard. I started thinking to myself “how could this get better?”, short answer: it did.
I’ll start of by talking about the class selection… oh wait that’s right there is none, YOU get to decide through weapons, skills, and, spells, how you want to play, without limits such as “you have to be a hunter to use a bow”. This also allows for a lot more freedom, and experimentation on the players part. Since you play as a two-armed being, you can hold, you guessed it, two things at a time. Although “things” is pretty broad, some of these “things” include, spells, swords, and shields. A really cool thing with the spells is that if you have two equipped, and you use them at the same time, you can blend there effects, or make a more powerful version of the spell(s). You can play in either 3rd or 1st person modes, but this time, all of the third person animations have been extremely polished, and killing things looks cool from either perspective.
Leveling up is a tad different than before. Although you still have sim-style stats that increase whenever you do that thing, you also have multiple perk trees. These trees help you further specialize in your own play style, and are displayed in a creative system of constellations, that become full star images when completed. You will also find Guardian Stones throughout your adventure’s that will also help you advance your skills.
There are over 1000 items to collect all hand drawn, and all fully rendered so that you can see them from all angles, even meat from dead animals is displayed in this beautiful fashion. The game is not without npc’s either, and all conversations take place in real time! Meaning that you can interrupt, or not reply for several in game hours, either way will affect your character. You can also get jobs, help people, and hinder people, even f it’s an npc minding his own business. All of these choices will develop good, or evil characteristics in your character.
Finally to conclude this first part of our look on Skyrim, i’ll tell you that there are over 150 dungeons to explore, massive mountains to climb, horses to ride, and dragons to fight. There will be harder and easier areas of the huge world, in terms of the level of your foes, but it will be kept random, to keep players on their toes, and inside  for the next 2 years.
