10 Reasons to be a Console Gamer 2 of 2

After some brainstorming was done and Tylenol taken (it’s a brainstorm of course it hurt) the latter part of the list was completed. On a separate note I think we should get some money from Tylenol for mentioning 3 times in the first two weeks we’ve been up. Anyway, here’s the list.

Wide Variety of Exclusives

Reality is for Losers

So true...

The PC has had a lot of good exclusives over the years: Age of Empires, Starcraft, Diablo, World of Warcraft. But all of the them seem to fall into one of three categories: RPG, MMO, or RTS. I have nothing against any of those genres but I am a man who demands variety! And I get what I want. I also noticed that those three categories seem to be the most time consuming and overall nerdy which backs up my point of PC gamers having to “nerd out” when they fire up a game. Console exclusives hit every genre and need not to be listed here. I like to be able to turn on my console and play a bunch of different games and not just ports or MMOs.

Bigger Screen + Multimedia Center

Yes this one is obvious. In some cases it may even be false. But generally console gamers get to enjoy their interactive, HD awesomeness on a screen that should easily boast 10 inches on any PC monitor. Who would want to play a cinematic game such as Mass Effect on a tiny PC monitor? What makes the ability to play your console through your television even better than it just being a big screen? The fact you can play your music, photos, and video does. All of the media is

Big Screen TV

Shiny

usually transferred from your PC, I will give PC fans that, but you can watch your slideshow of your odd and deranged stalking prowess while you rock What is Love in the background on your TV where everyone can enjoy! And who would argue with that?

Local Multiplayer

Splitscreen is probably one of the (if not the) best reason to be a console gamer out there. Yes online seems to be where it’s at these days with Call of Duty and Halo. But who doesn’t like inviting their friends over and beating them down in real life? To my knowledge PC gamers don’t have this luxury as it can become very cramped and even more awkward if you even had the ability to partition the keyboard. Even then how do you partition the mouse? No way that’s how. You are forced to play games via the interwebs

GoldenEye

You may have heard of this little game called GoldenEye. Memorable for none other than local multiplayer.

and have no easy ability to play the splitscreen. Even if you have two controller for the PC not too many games support it. But at least you can go online with Starcarft 2 and get beaten by the entire population of Korea.

They’re Built for the Job

Not only do consoles boot faster but they also are built to play games. PCs are powerfully machines but they are not meant to handle the rendering duties (along with the many other responsibilities) of a console. This creates a very smooth experience on the console all the time. The processor rarely skips and the cards are all top of the line. If a car is meant for racing it will most likely be faster than a car that is just meant for the road no matter how many upgrades you put in it. That metaphor isn’t the greatest but I’m not a poet. I’m barely a writer. Really how did I get this job?

That fast

They’re Unlikely to Receive Viruses

Virus

Not even Norton AntiVirus will be able to save you now. Mwahuhuhuha...where's my coat?

PCs (particularly Windows machines) are fairly error prone. Not that the operating systems themselves are glitched or buggy but because of the many dangers that the internet has to offer (be afraid, be very afraid). Many viruses are actually aimed at slowing down your computer and will then hinder and possibly disable your ability to play games. Consoles don’t have this problem as most viruses are targeted and written to attack the Windows OS which no console uses. This is not only affecting your gameplay now but your ability to use your computer to do anything and you may have lost your only means to play games. That would be a huge kick in the pants.
